Colonel was a follower of Maladie and a Touched man whose turn allowed him to manipulate how other people perceived reality.[1]

Biography[]

The Colonel is one of Maladie's henchmen. According to Inspector Frank Mundi, the gang spent three weeks in the honeymoon suite at Claridge's when the Colonel kept telling the manager he was the Prince of Wales.[1]

Hidden in the Southwark & Vauxhall Water Works, the Colonel mocks Clara Stowe's speech about her desire to be Touched. He then throws a turkey leg on the ground for the kidnapped Mary Brighton to eat. As she grabs the food, the illusion fades and she discovers that it's actually a dead rat, making the Colonel laugh. Bonfire Annie scolds the two for harassing Mary, as they were given strict instructions to leave her be. The Colonel leaves with Clara convincing her that it's time for church. Later, the Colonel flees with Maladie and Clara when the police arrive to rescue Mary, Penance Adair, and Amalia True.[1]

The next day, the Colonel approaches Dr. Horatio Cousens outside his home and uses his turn to lead him to a carriage, telling him he's an old friend who had promised to gift him one. Inside sits a wounded Maladie, who asks for the Colonel to not make him completely unfearful. The Colonel and Clara stand guard outside the carriage, while Maladie asks the doctor to use his healing turn on her gunshot wound.[2]

Days later, during the public execution of Maladie, the Colonel convinces one of the guards that he's his favorite uncle and makes his way inside a tent. Under the illusion of having gold buried below them, the Colonel instructs him and another guard to dig until they find an electrical box beneath the ground. After Clara, disguised as Maladie, jumps to be hanged in her place, the Colonel says "it was a privilege." He turns on the power and electrocutes those in the front row of the crowd, killing those who held the metal barricade. The people begin to run in panic, while outside the Beggar King forges a Purist manifestation. Penance follows the power lines into the tent, where she finds the Colonel. He throws the electrical control box to the ground and flees.[3]
